Available Funds Held by State and Federal Agencies for Individuals and Corporations
If the government, or an organization, owes you money and you do not collect it, then it's unclaimed. This also applies to banks, credit unions, pensions, and other sources. Funds held by public and private organizations that cannot be returned to the rightful owner are required to be reported by the organization and delivered to state and federal governments for safe keeping. This occurs frequently because the organization or government agency does not have the most recent valid contact information for the individual or organizational representative to contact them about the funds. The rightful owner, their heirs (children, spouses, etc.) or a corporate representative (corporate directors, etc.) can claim the funds on behalf of the organization by submitting a claim.
